CMS will be issuing every Medicare beneficiary new cards with a unique identifier in place of your social security number. This will help protect your identity. Your benefits and coverage will stay the same only the cards will change. Cards will be mailed out automatically starting in April 2018 through April 2019.
You should make sure that your address is up to date with the Social Security Administration. If you need to update your address, log into your account at SSA: https://ssa.gov/myaccount or call them at 1-800-772-1213. TTY users can call 1-800-325-0778.
It’s important to know that you don’t have to do anything or speak with anyone to get your new card. If you do get a call or letter about ‘applying’ for the new card to keep your benefits do not give out your information. Hang up and call 1-800-MEDICARE.
